Bin Laden must be in Iran

I don’t have any kids but I have been around them enough to know that they have a very short attention span. This reminds me of the Bush administration. An article in WaPo states,

“The United States has decided to designate Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, the country’s 125,000-strong elite military branch, as a “specially designated global terrorist,” according to U.S. officials, a move that allows Washington to target the group’s business operations and finances.”

Was the phrase, “specially designated global terrorist” just lost on me? Regardless, is Bush really trying to spark three different wars during his time in office? Congress has to put the reins on this guy because I am not convinced that Bush actually plans on leaving office. Even if Iran is meddling in Iraq, the US has done all the heavy lifting by ousting the Sunni in Afghanistan and Iraq. Sunni and Shia don’t get along all that well and Iran has the largest Shia population in the world. Moreover, the Iraqi government we are so desperate to help prop up is majority Shia, with all the Sunni cabinet members recently resigning.

Just so you understand the irony here, a Bush official said, “Anyone doing business with these people will have to reevaluate their actions immediately.” Interesting, I think Bush should take his own advice. From the LA Times,

Consider the case of one particular bad guy, Viktor Bout — a stout, canny Russian air transporter who also happens to be the world’s most notorious arms dealer.

When the U.S. government needed to fly four planeloads of seized weapons from an American base in Bosnia to Iraqi security forces in Baghdad in August 2004, they used a Moldovan air cargo firm tied to Bout’s aviation empire. The problem is that the planes apparently never arrived. When Amnesty International investigators tried two years later to trace the shipment of more than 99 tons of AK-47s and other weapons, U.S. officials admitted they had no record of the flights landing in Baghdad.

I don’t want any country having nuclear weapons but Bush’s whole façade of diplomacy is making me upset. Haven’t all the war contractors had enough no-bid contracts? Joseph Cirincione, a nuclear proliferation expert at the Center for American Progress said,

“Sanctions can serve as a prod, but they have very rarely forced a country to capitulate or collapse,” he said. “All of us want to back Iran into a corner, but we want to give them a way out, too. [The designation of specially designated global terrorist] will convince many in Iran’s elite that there’s no point in talking with us and that the only thing that will satisfy us is regime change.”

Bush, I am sure it is easy for you to continue with this reckless foreign policy when you are playing with other people’s lives.
