Bush doesn’t like the troops, I don’t like Bush

I really, really don’t like this guy. Why do he and his political allies talk all this noise about “supporting the troops” when they treat them like the little green army men that small children play war with?
Case in point: Democrats today called for the President to support a compensation increase for the soldiers via The National Defense Authorization Act:
When it comes to supporting our troops, our actions must match our words,” the leaders wrote. “Please join us in supporting our troops by reconsidering both your veto threat to the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008, and your objections to an increase in military pay and survivor benefits for the brave men and women serving our country in the armed forces.
The punchline here, that isn’t really funny, is that the “president” doesn’t want increase military pay! Here is their official statement:
The Administration opposes section 644, which would pay a monthly special survivor indemnity allowance of $40… the current benefit programs for survivors…provide sufficient benefits…
The Administration strongly opposes sections 601 and 606. The additional 0.5% increase above the President’s proposed 3.0 percent across-the-board pay increase is unnecessary.
What this means is that Bush is unwilling to pay his beloved army men’s families an extra $40 a month for their sacrifices, or an extra $6 a pay period to to his soldiers. What a joke.
Hypocrisy is disgusting. Lying is disgusting. What does that make a hypocritical liar? Disgusting. The Democrats summed their statement up quite eloquently:
Mr. President, you have consistently called on Congress and the American people to support our troops. Considering the sacrifices that our military families make, the Democratic proposal to provide the troops with the pay raise they deserve and an increase in benefits for the spouses they may leave behind is one small way that we can support our troops.
Be careful when someone continually trumpets the same line to you and their actions do not fall in line with it. Be especially careful when their person is the “president,” who holds so many people’s lives in his hands.

Garlin, I agree with you. I work for the Army as a civilian and I will have 22 years in July. I don’t agree with the war, however, what keeps me going is the mission of my Command, to train and deploy the soldiers. Since I am not the one who makes the decision about war, I do my job to the best of my ability to assure that the soldiers are trained and arrive where they have to be with all they need to do the mission they have to do. I swore the same oath as the soldiers do - to serve God and my country and to upold the Constitution of the United States of America.
I am planning on retiring in August and the hardest part of my leaving the Army is the soldiers. I know as long as I am able I will always do something to support them for the rest of my life.
Margaret, I appreciate your service to this country and I can only imagine how difficult it is for you to leave the soldiers you help train. I think Bush is mistaking the immense camaraderie of the soldiers and twisting that into soldiers actually supporting the war.
I would imagine the vast majority of soldiers are fighting like crazy to protect and support their fellow soldiers more so than the grandiose aims of democracy that Bush touts so often.

My wife served as an officer in the Air Force and I was shocked at how many enlisted men and women live below or at the poverty line while serving this country.
They used to encourage them to sign up for WIC and other programs to supplement what they were getting. I found it to tragic and disgraceful.
