One by One: Sen. Obama and Sen. Clinton decline Fox debate

April 9, 2007

Senator Clinton and Senator Obama join John Edwards in declining to participate in the debate sponsored by Fox News and the Congressional Black Caucus Institute. So with the top Democratic frontrunners backing out, this debate will have virtually no impact, if at all. Wouldn’t it be funny though if all the Republican Presidential candidates showed up?

Again, why is no one from the CBC not saying anything? Do they even want to sponsor a debate? Their silence is driving me crazy.

Thanks again to Color of Change and all the other online communities that worked together to put pressure on the candidates to back down from participating in this debate.

 Stay up fam,

 Brandon Q.

I heard something I found to be an interesting spin on this story, there are several liberals who feel Obama and Clinton’s decisions not to participate in the debate make them look weak. Mainly because Bill Clinton did the fox news debates and he did so well that it really crushed the other candidates and gave the voters on the fence clear cut directions to the Democratic Ticket. (Forgive me if this point has already been made I have not checked the site in like two days) Definitely something to think about.

    Ms. Mack,

That is an interesting way to look at this. There is something to be said for a candidate having the ability to navigate hostile environments effectively. Unfortunately, I think that this current crop of hopefuls is so image-conscious that they are unwilling to take the sort(s) of risk(s) that former President Clinton is able to take. Now, you could chalk that up to one of two things: they are either being responsible, or they are being scared. I don’t know what the answer is though.

Got something to say?
