Sharpton and Obama Make Up
March 19, 2007
Apparently they talked this weekend, and they are supposed to be all good now. This was inevitable, as I pointed out on Air America on Friday. The question is, is this for real?
Also, Sharpton said he is not jealous of Obama. I doubt it, but if he says so, so be it.

Got something to say?

I think the better question might be: was the feud ever real in the first place?
Seems to me like it was entirely media-manufactured. The NY Post ran a story quoting only unnamed sources, one supposedly in the Clinton camp, but then told Sharpton that Obama’s camp was behind the story.
That is a good question. I think that there is some bitterness on Sharpton’s part, I think Obama could really care less, and I don’t trust Clinton.
With that combination, anything is possible.
Listening to your interview, Garlin. It makes me remember how much I don’t like Al Sharpton. I truly feel that he’s only out to serve himself and that he does more harm than good. Although, in this case, I think a public rift between him and Barack actually helps Barack distance himself from Sharpton and get more white votes. If they get even a whiff that Barack might be a little too pro-black, they are going to turn on him. Shoot, they’re already trying to use his church, Trinity, to paint him as too pro-black. An Al Sharpton association would all but make their case for them.
If you need some evidence of the harm he causes, then look no further than the 2002 Newark, NJ mayoral election. He (and Jesse Jackson) helped to successfully campaign against a young, black reformist challenger against an old guard, corrupt incumbent by questioning the young guy’s blackness (he was light-skinned, too). Sounds just like now, doesn’t it? I’ve emailed about it before, but it’s something that
cats need to reminded of in lieu of the similar tactics they are using against Barack.
