Timeline to get out of Iraq

This is not a surprise by any means but Bush has a timeline for the Iraq catastrophe. There is a “classified plan, which represents the coordinated strategy of the top American commander and the American ambassador, calls for restoring security in local areas, including Baghdad, by the summer of 2008. ‘Sustainable security’ is to be established on a nationwide basis by the summer of 2009, according to American officials familiar with the document.”

What’s ironic is that the plan is titled the Joint Campaign Plan. What are we campaigning for? You would think that Dick Cheney is running for the Republican nomination. Pundits will tell you that Bush is obsessed with his legacy with an eye towards history looking favorably on his administration. I never understood this argument because with all the secrecy authorized by this administration, we won’t know the full details of Bush’s folly until we find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. (In other words, never.) So there must be something far more visceral than his legacy that is driving Bush and that I think is pride. The Bible states that pride always cometh before a fall. So to the CIA probably reading this post, tell Bush that it is not too late to do the right thing. Only by following the will of the people that want us out of Iraq will Bush have a remote possibility of saving his soul.

If this plan tells us nothing else, it shows that the only plan that Bush has is to make sure we are still in Iraq on January 20^th, 2009. What’s really unfortunate is that Bush and his crazy conservatives will celebrate this event as vindication of Bush’s preemptive doctrine. With that said, please don’t sit back and think protesting this war is a waste of time. Politicians do what they are forced to do.
